ABC members gain access to essential business compliance support

• Hundreds of member operations nationwide to benefit from access to new Employment Law, HR, and Health & Safety advisory service

The Association of British Climbing Walls (ABC), which represents 70% of the large and medium climbing and bouldering walls in the UK, today announced its partnership with Ellis Whittam, the Employment Law, HR, and Health & Safety specialist. The agreement means the ABC’s nationwide membership now has access to an expert legal advisory service, as well as a range of online tools and templates, to assist them through operating challenges as the country emerges from COVID-19.

Amidst a tough economic climate requiring careful staff planning, climbing wall operators have faced the added test of making sure their facilities are safe for both their employees and customers.

Strengthening the ABC’s promotion of safe management practices in climbing walls, Ellis Whittam will help its members to maintain legal compliance and uphold best practice in their duty of care as employers. Access will be provided to Ellis Whittam’s Employment and Health & Safety Knowledge Hubs, offering hundreds of downloadable documents, templates and policies. Members can also contact a dedicated business support advisory team via telephone or email to seek advice around Employment Law, HR, and Health & Safety matters. All advisors are qualified professionals who will provide advice and support that is bespoke to each member and their circumstances.

Ellis Whittam, part of Marlowe plc, counts over 35,000 employers across the UK among its clients and works in partnership with many other trade associations and professional membership organisations including BIRA (British Independent Retailers Association), ACEVO (Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations), the NHF (National Hairdressers Association), the NPA (National Pharmacy Association) and Propertymark, supporting their thousands of members around the UK.

Scott Haslam, Membership Services Manager at the ABC, said: “Ellis Whittam’s support service is the perfect complement to the specialist expertise in climbing safety we already provide to our members. From independent sites to large franchises with a presence across the country, all members face common challenges to maintain high performance facilities and teams. This will now be made easier through access to expert support, allowing owners and managers to spend more of their time on building back their businesses.”

Louise McGill, Senior Partnerships Manager at Ellis Whittam, said: “We are delighted to partner with the ABC, another national organisation leading best practice in their sector. We’ll provide members with valuable, business critical guidance to help climbing wall businesses to be legally compliant and operate to the highest standard.”
