adidas has announced plans to open the biggest distribution centre in its history in Niedersachsenpark, Germany in the first half of 2013.
Costing over €100 million and creating around 200 jobs, the centre will accommodate wholesale, own retail and ecommerce for both the adidas and Reebok brands in Western Europe.
Herbert Hainer, adidas Group CEO, says: “Until 2015 we want to grow our business to €17 billion.
“The new distribution centre will enable us to bring our products faster and more efficiently to our customers and consumers.
“This major investment in a state-of-the-art facility also clearly shows our commitment to our home market, Germany.”
Glenn Bennett, an executive board member of the adidas Group who is responsible for global operations, adds: “The new distribution centre will support the ambitious growth targets of our company over the years to come.
“At the same time, this facility will enable us to reduce complexity, increase productivity and offer better services to our customers.”
Ground is scheduled to be broken at the Niedersachsenpark site in August 2011, with the centre forecast to reach its full capacity by 2015.
The facility will be part of the adidas Group’s ‘Green Company’ initiative, which aims to reduce the group’s environmental footprint.
