After kicking off in Italy’s capital with a court transformation that went viral, the 2021 season of the 3on3 Red Bull Half Court streetball competition will return to the Eternal City to celebrate a World Final featuring top teams from up to 16 countries.
London, August 7th, 2021 – With 14 out of 16 National Finals completed, the 2021 Red Bull Half Court season has ushered in its final countdown. On Saturday, 16 October, the World Final for the fastest version of 3on3 basketball will take place right where this year’s excitement began, at a spectacular outdoor court in Rome, Italy.
The World Final location brings the season full circle, after tipping off in the spring with street artist PISKV’s transformation of the nearly 800 square meter court in Rome – creating a vibrant mural that captured global attention. Then national tournaments got underway, with China one of the first. In June, some of the most highly anticipated hooping took place in streetball-loving Serbia, where national hero Dušan Bulut – regarded as the greatest 3on3 player of all time – was on hand to encourage the players.
Local tournaments in Turkey, the UK, Germany, Greece, Italy and Egypt also offered prime examples of what streetball culture is all about, showcasing live entertainers as well as high-octane action. Finals in Switzerland, Japan and Nigeria were completed in early August.
Now just a few more national battles are left to play out before the finalist teams head to the iconic Scalo San Lorenzo court in Rome to take their shot at the world title.
Representing the UK at the World Finals will be London’s very own Tigers who will be competing for the men’s division and reigning UK champions, London Sol for the women’s. Both teams will be battling it out against the other nations in the hope of being crowned world champions!
Music, street art, entertainment, and fashion – all part of streetball culture – are interwoven with the topnotch ballin’ at Red Bull Half Court. The most global streetball tournament serves up the full experience as communities come together on the playgrounds, with rappers, DJs, dancers and musicians all contributing to the authentic atmosphere.
In addition, in this season alone, more than 11 community courts in seven countries have been renovated for qualifiers and national finals, and each will remain to be enjoyed by the local scene long after the tournament is over.
Red Bull Half Court is the global streetballer’s tournament, taking the game to the players: into their own cities and their own neighborhoods. With partners Spalding, McDavid and Ready2Music, Red Bull Half Court gives local teams around the world the chance to step up and own their court and their game.
