Animal hires Brandnation to manage PR and social media campaign

The integrated communications agency’s sports and outdoor team will handle the brand’s day-to-day press office activity across trade, specialist and consumer media, as well as maximising a busy schedule of supported events and festivals and a team of over 30 brand ambassadors covering the surf, skate, MTB, BMX, snowboard and ski sectors.

Brandnation will also be supporting Animal’s in-house marketing team’s social media activities.

Joel Pickering, head of brand and marketing at Animal, says: “We have a number of major launches planned for 2015.

“It’s going to be an exciting year and we will be working with Brandnation to ramp up our communications, maximise our wealth of brand assets and content and explore ways in which to engage new and existing customers through a series of sponsored and experiential action sports and sports lifestyle events.”

Brandnation managing director Mary Killingworth says: “Animal is a successful UK brand and a household name that has ambitious plans for 2015 and beyond.

“We are delighted to have won such a prestigious account and to be working with the brand at such an interesting time in its evolution.”

Animal was founded in 1987 by two British surfers who set up shop in a back bedroom to make watch straps to sell to their surf friends, with the modest intention of funding their surfing lifestyle.

However, the simplicity and rugged nature of the straps made them ideal for other action sports and the brand sales grew exponentially, as did the brand, expanding into action sports-inspired clothing for men, women and children; watches; wetsuits; technical outerwear; eyewear; footwear; luggage and accessories.

Animal’s ‘rider-refined’ programme means all its products get tried, tested and tweaked by the Animal pro team before they go on sale.
