Mike Ashley has upped his stake in Newcastle United to 93.2 per cent. The move will enable the billionaire retail tycoon to remove the club from the stock market and force all remaining shareholders to sell their stakes in the club.
Ashley purchased former chairman Sir John Hall’s 41.6 per cent stake in the club for £55 million and club chairman Freddy Shepherd’s 28 per cent stake for £37.6 million.
Deputy chairman Douglas Hall, Bruce Shepherd, Allison Antonopoulos and Tim Revill all resigned from the Newcastle plc board this week.
It’s also been reported on telegraph.co.uk today that Ashley has purchased Everlast for £84 million.
