British Rowing is calling on all fitness enthusiasts, as well as rowers from the outdoor and indoor rowing communities, as the British Rowing Indoor Championships (BRIC) returns to Birmingham’s NEC as part of FitFest on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December.
British Rowing has partnered once again with FitFest to deliver its flagship indoor competition alongside the biggest weekend in the UK fitness calendar, with 15,000 fitness fanatics set to compete across five different events including the England Weightlifting Championships, obstacle course racing, powerlifting and AHX Finals Weekend.
Whether you’re looking to set a World record, targeting a new personal best, representing your local gym or simply wishing to test yourself against some of the best indoor rowers in the world, BRIC is ready to welcome you with open arms and send you home with sore ones.
The action-packed weekend will kick off on Saturday 7th December with the 2,000m, 500m, timed events and team relay events. The events are open for ages 11+ across seven different categories:
- Open (anyone over 18)
- Under-23
- Junior
- Lightweight
- Masters (all ages from 30+)
- Adaptive
- Relay
Over 2,000 people are expected to compete in total, with notable participants including Paris Olympic champion Lauren Henry, who won gold in the women’s quadruple sculls. Entries so far include competitors from across the World with 32 different nationalities represented so far.
Last year’s competition saw three World, four British and 30 Championship records broken in an electric day of rowing – and this year’s event is hoping to raise the bar once more.
In an exciting new addition, British Rowing has added a Super Sprint Sunday to this year’s event schedule, offering the ultimate short-distance challenge for athletes competing across six challenges. British Super Sprint Champions will be crowned as rowers take aim at Concept2 World Records in the one-minute sprint, 100m and 1,000m.
Participants can enter one or multiple sprint challenges which include:
- 1-minute sprint
- 100m sprint
- 250m sprint
- 1,000m
- The Elimination Race
- The Super Sprint Surprise Challenge
Would-be Super Sprint Champions are encouraged to sign up quickly, with just 100 race slots available per challenge.
Entries for both Saturday and Sunday events start at £6, with registration for Saturday 7th December closing at 12pm GMT on Tuesday 26th November, while registration for Super Sprint Sunday will remain open until the morning of the competition, subject to places remaining.
