Streetwear and athleisure brand Champion has sponsored young boxing sensation, Francesca Hennessy, as it boosts investments in UK sport.
At just 19 years old, Fran is a 2x National Champion, Golden Girls Champion & Women’s Winter Box Cup Champion, and already famous for her ring walks – with aspirations to become the youngest Undisputed World Champion. No stranger to the world of boxing growing up, her boxing career is supported by her father, boxing manager and promoter Mick Hennessy, and has since seen trainer Bradley Skeete, former British and Commonwealth Champion, promoter BOXXER take her on, and is being backed heavily by Sky Sports.
Chris Haggarty, Champion Marketing Director (EMEA), said: “We’re so pleased to welcome Fran to the Champion family, as part of our growing pledge to support aspiring athletes and talent. Fran encapsulates everything we’re about at Champion, through her rising boxing career, and her work with young girls to inspire them to get into sport. This sponsorship is the next step in our ongoing investment in talented, up and coming talent in the UK.”
Hennessy added: “Being sponsored by Champion is a huge milestone as my boxing career takes off. Champion is a brand I’ve worn throughout my years training and fighting. Their strategy is just the newest step to encourage young girls to get into sport – which is my main aim as a female boxer!”
As part of its continued efforts to support original talent, Champion is also working with boxer Harlem Eubank, ahead of his face-off with Adam Azim later this year.
Born over 100 years ago, Champion has been at the forefront of sportswear innovation – masterminding clothing staples including the sports bra, alongside the game-changing reverse weave technology, creating the world’s-first engineered sweatshirt.
