Darren Clarke will collect his £2 million bonus from clothing sponsor Dunlop for winning the 2011 Open at a special ceremony at the Lillywhite’s store in London on July 20.
Both Dunlop and Lillywhite’s are owned by Mike Ashley, who also owns Sports Direct.
Clarke, who moves up to 30th in the world following his win, hit a final round of 70 and eventually won the championship by a margin of three shots.
He was playing in his 20th Open and is the first winner from the UK since Paul Lawrie, who won it in 1999, and becomes only the second Northern Irishman to win the tournament, following on from Fred Daly in 1947.
Says Sunny Singh, head of sports marketing for Dunlop: “Our long-standing sponsorship deal with Darren Clarke is one we are very proud of and we are delighted that Darren, one of the world’s most popular golfers, has won his first major title.
“Our congratulations go out to Darren and his entire team.”
