European sales growth for New Balance

New Balance EMEA has reported a significant growth in European sales.

Growing 25 per cent in 2011, the brand is forecasting a further 20 per cent rise this year.

It says a major part of its success is down to its commitment to the principles of domestic manufacturing in Flimby, Cumbria – where over 1.2 million shoes are produced each year.

“The factory is running at full capacity and we are doing all we can, through the introduction of innovative working practices, including the incorporation of lean manufacturing and continual technical training for staff, to meet the increasing demand,” says Andy Okolowicz, New Balance’s factory manager.

“Our success is built on the cornerstones of practical design techniques, technological innovation, highly flexible manufacturing skills and teamwork, which give us that competitive edge.”

Graham Dicken, New Balance’s marketing manager EMEA region, echoes this view: “The guiding principle of domestic manufacturing stands at the heart of New Balance’s corporate policy.

“UK manufacturing is experiencing a renaissance.

“This throws the spotlight onto our own sustained dedication to domestic production, which provides the dynamo for sustainable growth and offers the brand the distinctive cachet, ‘Made in Britain’.”
