Up & Running have teamed up with New Balance with some exciting plans for January, aimed at people brand new to the running world, or coming back from injury to get running again, this year we’re taking a new spin on things with ‘First Steps Challenge’. An exciting FREE challenge for people to get involved with, all round the country to start their running journey towards either a 5k or 10k distance goal by following a structured training plan.
When?
You can sign up from now, and you can still sign up once the challenge has started so anyone with delayed new year new me motivation can still get involved – why not invite a friend as well and challenge each other! The campaign will run from 1st – 31st January 2024. You will see it on Up & Running social media channels too.
How will it work?
Sign up to the online ‘running content hub’ where you can access all you need to kickstart your running in the new year, we cover off everything from gait analysis and your local shop and social run groups, try on nights with New Balance (selected stored TBC) and also a free training plan supported by New Balance’s International athlete Jonny Mellor for either a 5k or 10k distance which you can tick off as you complete the plan.
Our idea is that the content will be online but we also want those of you who sign up to get out and run with our community which is where our shop communities and SRG run groups are a key part of this campaign, encouraging people to make it past the usual 21 days to form a habit and to continue with the support to run of Up & Running through January and beyond. We want you to achieve your running goals and enjoy all the benefits running gives both mentally and physically.
The challenge will be supported by New Balance similar to previous years, the new 1080 and other shoes including the 880 and Morev4 offer brilliant options for running shoes. Try out our gait analysis in one of our shops to find the right shoe for you. Our in store running mentors will always be on hand with plenty of advice and guidance on everything from running tips, to kit, shoes and to keep you motivated throughout the First Steps Challenge and further.
Our social run groups will be involved providing motivation and encouragement once you have reached your goal of 5k you can run with the group each week to keep up your momentum.
Look out for the posters and links to get involved in the challenge in our shops.
