Gore-Tex Athlete Tamara Lunger to start at the Red Fox Elbrus Race 2018

Tamara Lunger, an exceptional athlete and winter mountaineer, will be competing in the 2018 Red Fox Elbrus Ski Monsters Expedition Race.

The Italian will be supported by Gore-Tex in the ski mountaineering race, taking place as part of the tenth anniversary of the renowned Red Fox Elbrus Race series, May 1-8, in the Caucasus Region.

Lunger said: “I am really looking forward to winter. I ́ve never been to Elbrus so this will be a double challenge and I am super motivated.”

Preparations couldn’t be better: mid January she will start a tough winter expedition with her mountaineering partner Simone Moro. After that Tamara is part of a six-person team crossing the Alps from Vienna to Nice, a distance of 2,000 km and 60,000 meters in vertical height.

She added: “After that, I should be fit.”

The Red Fox Elbrus Race has established itself as a popular get-together in the high altitude trail-running community during the past ten years.

Susanne Fischer, European marketing director for Red Fox, said: “Having a top athlete like Tamara participating at the Red Fox Elbrus Race only adds to the allure. The race is taking place in a region somewhat unknown to European mountaineers.

“Being one of the Seven Summits, Mount Elbrus offers terrific opportunities! Participants are becoming more international every year, which is something we ‘re really pleased with.”

In 2018, the 10th anniversary of the race will be celebrated with a first time long distance ski mountaineering race on Mount Elbrus: the Red Fox Elbrus Ski Monsters Expedition Race.

The start will be in Azau, a small village at 2,500 m altitude. A total distance of 43 km and 5,257 metres vertical gain will be covered – a special challenge at this altitude for every athlete.

Mountaineering brand Red Fox is one of the most popular outdoor brands in their homeland of Russia and steadily gaining recognition in the outdoor world of the US and Europe.

A breakthrough happened when the two founders launched the Red Fox Elbrus Race in 2008. “Celebrating the 10th anniversary in 2018 verifies that we are on the right track,” said Vlad Moroz, one of the founders.
