While the USA has shown great interest in Greenland, there is one thing Donald Trump Jr. is unlikely to bring home from his visit to the world’s largest island: Greenland’s new national football team jersey. Sold out in less than 24 hours after being launch shortly before Christmas, the massive international demand for the jersey has prompted hummel to produce even more to meet global interest.
All eyes are currently on Greenland, as Donald Trump Jr. visits the island. The purpose of his visit remains unknown, but if his goal is to secure the iconic Greenland jersey, he’ll be heading home empty-handed.
Shortly before Christmas, hummel launched the new national team jersey, which sold out online in less than 24 hours. The overwhelming international interest has led hummel to produce an entirely new batch that will hit shelves this upcoming Friday to meet the growing global demand.
“We have been blown away by the incredible interest in the national team jersey. Greenland may not be one of the world’s biggest football nations, but it is certainly one of the most unique. Launching this unique jersey only confirmed that no one needs to make Greenland “great again”. It’s already great. And we’re proud to have helped showcase this to the entire world, hummel’s marketing director, Morten Lund states.
Despite the island’s harsh weather conditions, football is a significant unifying force for the entire nation. With more than one in ten residents actively playing football, the sport fosters a sense of identity and community among the Greenlandic people.
Greenlandic football is experiencing rapid growth. Last year, the Greenland Football Association took a historic step by officially applying for membership in CONCACAF. Membership would pave the way for Greenland to compete in qualification matches against national teams from North and Central America.
“We are incredibly proud to be part of Greenland’s exciting journey, and we hope to contribute positively to its development in the coming years. Greenland is a truly unique sponsorship for us, and we look forward to working closely with the Greenland Football Association to show the world that Greenland— more specifically Greenlandic football—is already ‘GREAT’,” concludes Morten Lund.
In addition to a new batch of the home jersey, hummel announces that the new Greenland away jersey will be launched on Friday, January 17, 2025.
