Leading cycling events company HotChillee has confirmed a three-year partnership with Cure Leukaemia with the goal of raising half a million pounds.
The money will be used to fund ten new specialist research nurses at centres across the UK to connect blood cancer patients with potentially life-saving or life-extending drugs that are not currently available through standard care.
As part of the programme HotChillee will deliver the third edition of the Cure Leukaemia London 2 Paris this September, supporting 150 riders on their epic 500km journey. In addition, HotChillee will provide entries to their premium global events to keen cyclists from Deutsche Bank, who launched a two-year national Charity of the Year partnership with Cure Leukaemia this year.
Former England, Crystal Palace and Wolves footballer, blood cancer survivor and Cure Leukaemia Patron Geoff Thomas fronted the charity’s two previous rides in 2015 and 2016. Geoff took up cycling after beating blood cancer in 2005 and has driven Cure Leukaemia’s move into major cycling events ever since he returned to the charity three years ago.
HotChillee Founder, Sven Thiele said: “We have worked with Geoff and his brilliant leukaemia fund raising initiatives several years ago and look forward to providing an event fundraising platform for this important cause over the next three years. Geoff, as a survivor is inspirational and I am certain that the £500k target will be exceeded with his active involvement!”
Geoff said: “I have known and worked with Sven and HotChillee for many years and the events they organise are of the highest quality. I know that their input will elevate an already superb London 2 Paris event and hopefully attract new supporters to Cure Leukaemia’s work. I am sure that, together, we will devise some really unique and memorable cycling events during these three years that will attract cyclists of all abilities and I am really looking forward to getting started!”
Cure Leukaemia CEO James McLaughlin said: “We are very excited to be partnering with such a highly-regarded cycling events company for the next three years. We are very confident that HotChillee’s input will make this year’s Cure Leukaemia London 2 Paris ride the most successful to date and we are looking forward to working closely with Sven and his team to maximise all opportunities from this and future events in the coming years.”
