Lionel Sanders hails real stars of first PTO Pro Am

Winning captain Lionel Sanders summed it up best as the sun set on the first ever PTO Pro Am, hosted at the Herbalife24 Triathlon Los Angeles on Sunday, May 15.

He said: “The importance of this relay was to highlight the many Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) athletes who embody the true meaning of #nolimits.

“What an incredibly inspiring and fun day to be a part of. Thanks to the PTO and CAF for putting on a great event. We’re leaving LA feeling motivated to get back to work and onto the next one.”

Sanders and his team of former UFC star, Paul Felder, and Paralympian, Haven Shepherd, may have taken the podium in the mixed celebrity relay event, which featured nine CAF athletes across six teams. But the triathlon feelgood factor extended far beyond that, to the 50 elite athletes competing for the $100,000 prize fund – provided by the Professional Triathletes Organisation – and more than 2,000 amateur triathletes who had come to compete from the USA, UK, Asia, and South America.

“Athletes from around the world took to the streets of Los Angeles to compete in the triathlon, bike tour or 5K,” said Ibi Montesino, Senior Vice President, and Managing Director for Herbalife Nutrition North America Region.

“Thousands of spectators on the side-lines cheered the athletes on, and we thank them, our partners and sponsors for making this a successful event.”

“It was a special weekend,” reflected PTO CEO Sam Renouf. “So I wanted to extend a huge congratulations and thank you to the Herbalife team and all the volunteers for all their hard work. Hands down the biggest thing I’ll take away from the weekend was the unique cocktail of competition, camaraderie and celebration that exuded from the event. It created the ‘festival of triathlon’ vibe we aspire to.”
