Macesport wins ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon

Human Race has hired multi-award winning independent sports communications firm Macesport to work on the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon 2019 – the second largest Marathon in the UK.

The specialist sports communications agency, based in Nottingham, has been brought on board following a successful PR campaign promoting another of Human Race’s events – the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run, London’s biggest 10K running event.

Macesport will now carry out a targeted media relations programme to raise awareness of the marathon and firmly establish it as one of Europe’s premier running events.

The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon is one of many premier events owned by Human Race, including Royal Windsor Triathlon, Vitus Dragon Ride and L’Etape UK. In 2016, Human Race was acquired by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O), owners of Le Tour de France and the Paris Marathon.

CEO of eight years, Nick Rusling said: “We’re always looking at how we can take the event further and build on what we’ve achieved. Macesport has a track record of delivering world class PR campaigns and they’re not afraid to do things a little bit differently which fits well with our approach so we’re excited to see what they can bring to the table.”

Known as the UK’s flattest, fastest and friendliest marathon, the event is expected to attract 20,000 runners with the course finishing outside Emirates Old Trafford.

Macesport CEO Ben Thompson said, “Human Race has created some truly special multisports events here in the UK and that’s evident by the increasing number of people it attracts year after year, particularly those who keep coming back.

“We’re looking forward to being a part of the team once again and helping to grow the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon into a world-renowned running event.”

Macesport’s campaign includes a comprehensive PR and Media campaign based on the diverse and inspiring stories of runners and volunteers involved in the event.

Human Race adds to Macesport’s impressive client portfolio which includes the NFL, William Hill, Teqball, Kitman Labs, Air Race 1, Fuel for Sport, Soccerex and formerly Vauxhall during its seven-year lead sponsorship of the England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales national football associations.
