But, from 2018, the brand is honouring over a century of traditional craftsmanship and innovative technology with a new approach, taking its performance-driven ethos and applying it to updated, style-focused designs.
Sports Style is a new footwear category informed by the brand’s rich history and inspired by an intense desire to discover what’s next. It’s Mizuno’s own unique take on contemporary sneakers.
Combining unfailing functionality, superior comfort and a modern sense of style, Mizuno’s latest footwear range offers something unique and fresh for those living on-the-go lifestyles.
The first drop to usher in the Sports Style range will be the Wave Rider 1 in Spring/Summer 2018. The sneaker is modelled on the original Wave Rider from 1998 which introduced the iconic Mizuno Wave technology and has remained popular with runners during its continued evolution. 20 years after it was first created, the brand continues using the Wave Rider’s unique cushioning system and now Sports Style will once again highlight the iconic technology’s enduring legacy.
To celebrate the highly anticipated Sports Style launch, Mizuno has assembled a community of like-minded, sneaker-obsessed brands and retailers from across Europe and Japan. Together with Mizuno, the Kazoku—a Japanese word meaning family—will develop a united vision for the future and share it across a series of projects.
Kazoku members Patta, solebox, Slam Jam Socialism, Sneakersnstuff, Mita, Beams, Wood Wood, Afew, Titolo, Hanon, Footpatrol, One Block Down and 24 Kilates will receive new and exclusive Mizuno releases and work with the brand on one-off collaborations.
Sports Style and Kazoku are long-term endeavours, so expect more from the vast Mizuno archives and new technology and innovation that pushes the boundaries of performance and lifestyle design.
