New British sports channel to launch in September

A new free-to-view digital sports channel dedicated to the live streaming of British sports is set to launch in September.

Backed by sports production company Input Media, brand engagement specialist Kameleon, the Telegraph Media Group and Convers Sports Initiatives, a rapidly expanding sports, media and entertainment company, GBsport TV says it will stream 1,400 hours of live coverage a year.

The core sports GBsport TV will cover include athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, handball, hockey, rowing, sailing, swimming, taekwondo, tennis and winter sports.

The coverage will be a combination of live domestic and international events, including national, European and world championships.

The channel will be accessible to fans across a number of multimedia platforms, including laptops, mobiles and internet-enabled television, and also easily viewed and shared via Facebook and other community networks.

“We’re excited by the vision this experienced consortium has for GBsport TV,” says Vladimir Antonov, co-founder of GBsport TV investor CSI.

“We believe GBsport TV will benefit hugely from the growing trend for consumers to watch their favourite sports online.”

David Wood, executive chairman of Input Media, adds: “There are many sports played by the British public at all levels that do not receive the free-to-air exposure their fans and players crave.

“GBsport TV will fill this gap by utilising technology innovations that reduce production and broadcast costs, but deliver a great viewing experience for fans.”
