Polar, the leader in wearable sports and fitness technology for over 40 years, will be powering the education element of Schools Half Marathon in a new partnership.
Schools Half Marathon is part of Schools Running Movement by UK Run Events, a collaborative revolution for movement and change.
In their role as Foundation Partner for Schools Half Marathon, Polar will be powering the education side by providing a supportive structure of practical advice and technical knowledge alongside other Foundation Partners. This will be delivered via Schools Running Movement YouTube, a free channel for runners, schools and parents to support their Schools Half Marathon.
This free sport education service will be powered by Polar to help support Schools Half Marathon on its journey to encourage school children, families and siblings across the UK to get active and to establish a regular, healthy exercise routine. The educational content will cover a wide range of running-related topics for runners of all ages, levels and experience.
Schools Half Marathon is a cumulative, non-competitive and inclusive movement that sees pupils run 12 miles at school over the course of a term or half term, before completing the final 1.1 miles at an organised event in front of family and friends. By encouraging school pupils to get active and rewarding them along the way, the initiative helps youngsters to develop healthy habits to exercise regularly, reduce screen time and build confidence through sport.
Polar is one of the 12 partners that will work together to provide helpful and informative content for the education channel. Together, the Foundation Partners will form an Advisory Committee (AC) which will work as ONE to continue to drive Schools Half Marathon and the Movement forwards with founders Rebecca Richardson and Joe Williams.
Other Foundation Partners announced so far include specialist running retailer Up & Running and leading ethical water brand One.
In the future, Polar plan to support schools with analysis via their supporting app and web service to demonstrate the benefits and healthy change that Schools Half Marathon is making.
Rebecca Richardson, Schools Half Marathon Director said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Polar as a Foundation Partner for Schools Half Marathon and to announce that they will be powering education with us. It is fantastic to have the support of such a high-profile name in the industry and to be able to share first-class advice and knowledge through our dedicated YouTube channel. This is a really exciting time for us all and we are committed to making a difference to future generations through working together as ONE.”
David Wiley, Managing Director from Polar, added: “It is an exciting time to come on board as a Foundation Partner for Schools Half Marathon and to be leading the education element of this inspiring and potentially life-changing movement. We are fully behind the ethos that sport has the power to change people’s lives and look forward to working with Schools Half Marathon, Rebecca, Joe and the AC to drive this forward together in years to come. We have some inspirational future developments that we are working on with Schools Running Movement and look forward to announcing these for the future runners.”
