Ramy Ashour teams up with Salming

One of the most technically skilled players ever to play the game of squash teams up with the young progressive Swedish squash brand Salming.

The collaboration will see Ramy Ashour wearing Salming shoes and apparel starting at this month’s tournament in Al Ahram, Egypt.

Ashour was born in Egypt on September 30, 1987, in Cairo.

He started to play squash when he was only six years old.

Encouraged by his parents, he went on to claim his first title in 2004 when he won the Men¹s World Junior Squash Championship at the age of 16.

In January 2010 he reached world number one for the first time, at just 22 years of age, becoming the youngest player to do so in 26 years.

In 2013, Ashour came back from 2-0 down to defeat Gregory Gaultier in the final of the Tournament of Champions – a momentum that carried on from 49 matches during 2012.

On November 21, 2014, he won his third world title when defeating Mohamad El-Shorbagy at the Squash World Championship in Doha,.
Ashour said: “I am very excited to partner with the Salming brand and endorse their products.

“They are a very forward looking company and innovators in the squash world.

“The fact I let go of another huge brand to use the Salmings products is proof of the quality and excellence of their products.”

The Swedish brand was established in Sweden in 1991 and started up their squash range in 2012 in the wake of their indoor shoe success which attracted many proffessional squash players.

Today Salming is a solid progressive part of the international squash community with global partnerships such as Official supplier of Shoes and Apparel to the PSA and collaborations with etc.
Tomas Solin, CEO Salming Sports AB, said: “At Salming we’re excited and proud to embark on this journey with Ramy, from the first time we spoke it is clear that this will be a very special relationship.

“Ramy’s way of playing the game in combination with his vibrant personality on an off court appearance fits our brand like a hand in the glove and we cannot wait to kick this off.

“The momentum of the Salming brand in squash has been building up the last couple of seasons and 1617 is no exception – we are still the new progressive kid on the block who likes to do things differently, with teammates like Ramy we are determined to succeed and to continue developing no nonsense products for no nonsense people”.
Adrian Grant, Global Brand Manager Salming Sports AB and former world number eight, said: “During my years on the tour I have been fortunate to witness Ramy’s raise through the ranks along with his long list of impressive titles.

“He is one of those phenomenon’s in there chosen sport that only come around once in a lifetime.

“With his infectious style on and off the court he is adored around the globe.

“This is why our partnership simply fits perfectly with such a unique player.

“We look forward to our partnership with Ramy and welcome him to the Salming family with open arms.”
