Climategames is a new sports app on a mission to fight climate change in a fun and rewarding way – by empowering people through sport. In partnership with ReSea Project – a Danish organisation that actively removes plastic waste from oceans and rivers – they have removed over 800 kilos of plastic waste this July.
For the whole month of July, ReSea Project held an event on the Climategames app inviting everyone to join their Plastic-Free July challenge. Consumers around the world logged their time spent swimming, running, cycling or walking via the smart app. And for every kilometre logged, Climategames and ReSea Project removed 100 grams of plastic waste from ocean and rivers – the equivalent of five 500ml single use plastic water bottles.
Martin Lacey Founder and CEO at Climategames says: “This July, small steps really have made a big difference and allowed us to collectively remove over 800 kilos of plastic waste from the ocean, thanks to the sporting efforts from our users. We’re on a mission to become the most fun, easy and competitive way for people everywhere to make a positive impact on climate change, in a way that’s also good for their lifestyle. We encourage people everywhere to join our movement and make their work out or walk really matter.”
Christine Tangdal at ReSea Project, says: “The initiative with Climategames is running in conjunction with Plastic-Free July and we’re proud to be have worked together to remove 800 kilos of plastic from oceans and rivers so far. The campaign runs until 8th August so there’s still time to log activities and help remove even more plastic. It has been uplifting to see everyone working together to make a difference and we’ll be setting more targets to remove even more plastic waste from our oceans.
“To have a positive impact on plastic pollution and ocean health, we must all come together and Climategames is an initiative everyone can get behind easily to take action that has an immediate impact. We’d love to speak to other companies interested in partnering with us to achieve sustainability objectives and set clear and tangible goals we can all work to together.”
