Ronhill is delighted to announce that the innovative relay race series “Ronhill British Mile Relays” has won a major international award from the Victor & William Fung Foundation. The concept was shortlisted from over 50 global entries, as a sustainable idea with a clear mandate to address social change. Aileen and Ronan Kearney, founders of Mersey Racing, who organise the events, were flown to Hong Kong to pitch live at a major conference. After an upbeat and professional presentation, they were the unanimous choice of the judging panel.
Now with the backing of the global Fung Group* and Ronhill, supported by Hilly and Altra, this race series will be rolled out internationally in 2019. There will be 3 races in Hong Kong in October 2019, combined with events across England, Scotland, Wales & Ireland.
Ronan Kearney from Mersey Racing said: “We are very excited to get the support of the Fung Group to build on this exciting concept, and to get men and women running for each other in truly equal teams – it’s the future of sport”
Oliver Carter of Ronhill said: “This is an amazing start for the whole British Mile Relays project and to get global recognition so early in its development demonstrates its appeal, concept and purpose. Everyone in the team is motivated to deliver the events to more people next year.”
Editors note: The British Mile Relays is an innovative race series where women and men race on equal terms in teams of 4 (2 women and 2 men in each team). We believe that true equality in sport will be accelerated by competitive events where women and men compete for each other – and with each other – on equal terms for equal prizes, and that is why we were so pleased to support this event.
