Sally Gunnell entertained runners in York as part of Up & Running’s 30th anniversary celebrations

Gold medallist, Sally Gunnell visited York’s exciting new Up & Running store, where runners had the opportunity to meet the sporting legend as well as run with her.

The visit from Sally on Saturday 21 May was part of Up & Running’s celebrations to mark its milestone 30th anniversary. The specialist independent running shop first opened its doors in Harrogate in 1992, the same year that Sally stormed to victory in 400m hurdles in Barcelona to win Olympic gold. Since then, Up & Running has gone from strength-to-strength, opening a further 28 stores across the UK, including a further four stores across Yorkshire.

The popular running shop which offers free gait analysis, expert advice and a huge selection of running shoes and kit to suit all runners, has recently relocated its York store to new premises at 9 Colliergate. Sporting legend, Sally Gunnell was visiting the new shop on Saturday 21 May where she held a Q&A session from 5pm before leading a short, guided run around the historic city at 6.30pm.

Talking about the milestone anniversary Up & Running founder, Gillian MacFarlane said: “We were delighted that Sally was able to visit the new store, she’s such an inspiration.
