Saucony will be the exclusive shoe and sportswear partner for the Brighton Marathon, which takes place for the first time on April 18, 2010.
Race organiser, The Grounded Events Company, aims to make the event the second largest marathon in the UK.
Says race director Tim Hutchings, a former British Olympian: “It has been an amazing few weeks since launch and demand for entries via the race website has not abated since. Current expectations are that the event will be at capacity by the end of the summer and it’s clear that the runners in the region have bought into the event already, with all 1,000 Brighton Bond entries reserved for local residents being snapped up in the first eight hours.
“Brighton and Hove – to give the city its full title – is the biggest city in the south east after the capital and is fondly known as London by the Sea. We recognised the crowds and the atmosphere the city brings to existing sporting and cultural events and the heritage of running in the area demands a major road race.”
Says Andrew Sainsbury, managing director of Stride Rite UK, which owns the Saucony brand: “It’s fantastic for Saucony to be aligned with the Brighton Marathon. Having already seen the community enthusiasm and reaction, I know that it will be a roaring success. Brighton is a fantastic city with a wealth of culture and diversity, and the residents have already taken the marathon to heart.
“Saucony are already sponsors of several major events around the UK, including the English National Cross Country Championships, IronMan UK and the Grizzly, a 20-mile off-road race which sells out in days. The Brighton Marathon now completes the jigsaw with regard to our race portfolio and reaffirms our commitment to bringing running to the people, regardless of their health and ability.”
