Leading global performance nutrition brand Science in Sport (SiS) are partnering with professional cyclist Freddy Ovett as he takes on new challenges in 2023.
British-born, Australian Freddy Ovett has enjoyed a successful last few seasons as a professional cyclist, most recently riding for UCI Continental team L3GION of Los Angeles; with career highlights including a second place finish in the 2022 Esports World Championships and ninth overall at Tour de Langkawi in 2019. Freddy’s sporting successes have not been confined to two-wheels either. In 2021 he completed the Los Angeles Marathon in a remarkable time of 2:48:55, and in 2022 bettered this at Berlin Marathon – with a 2:45:29 finish time.
2023 sees some exciting changes to Freddy’s professional career, with him having made the decision to switch his competitive cycling discipline from road to gravel. His race season will start with the Esports Zwift World Championships in February, and from there Freddy will take on an impressive line-up of gravel events; with The Gralloch Scotland (UK) in May, Unbound Gravel (USA) in June, Gravel Worlds (USA) in August and the UCI Gravel World Championships (Italy) in September. And in what is becoming his season ‘trademark’, Freddy also hopes to add a marathon to his racing calendar at the end of the season, but is yet to confirm when, and where this will be.
Freddy’s new and exciting ambitions will be fuelled by his long-term nutrition partner Science in Sport (SiS), in a 12-month partnership, that will see the Science in Sport team offering Freddy access to both their award-winning nutrition range and globally renowned expert performance team.
Freddy said: “Fuelling in the sport I do is everything. In recent years athletes have really started to understand the importance of nutrition on performance and this has always been an area I’ve always had a great interest in. SIS makes fuelling simple, easy and efficient, with a comprehensive product range that covers all bases. A personal favourite of mine is the Beta Fuel range, it helps me to manage my carb intake and push how much I am able to get out of my training and racing.
“I’m very much looking forward to working with SIS this year, I am excited to push the limits in what is possible with my sports nutrition and show the world what can be achieved with top level products used in the right way.”
Sam Driver, Elite Performance Director at Science in Sport said: “We are delighted to be supporting Freddy in his sporting adventures, fuelling him to future successes. It’s always such a great pleasure to work with athletes that truly understand the importance of sports nutrition in performance and offer such genuine and thoughtful endorsements of our performance range. We are excited to work closely with Freddy and watch his 2023 season come to life in the next few months.”
