Speedo, the world’s leading swimwear brand, has announced its official partnerships with Team England, Wales and Scotland as the home nations gear up for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
For the first time ever, the partnerships will see Speedo provide technical and training products exclusively for the home nations at the Commonwealth Games this summer, including bespoke racing suits in the colours of each nation to aid their medal pursuits.
In addition, Speedo will also supply training suits for all swimmers to help them prepare for their races.
This will see Speedo become official supporter across the Home Nations for Team England, Scotland and Wales.
The partnership comes off the back of an incredible Olympic Games for Speedo and its athletes. Team GB stars Tom Dean, Duncan Scott and Matt Richards, amongst many others, swam their way to gold in Tokyo whilst wearing Speedo suits. The trio will look to repeat their successes this summer, swimming for Team England, Scotland and Wales respectively.
However, the success of Speedo’s suits extends further than Tokyo 2020. Since their launch in 2019, Speedo’s LZR Pure Intent and LZR Pure Valor racing suits have been worn by 58% of swimmers who have broken a world record, meaning the home nations partnerships will equip even more swimmers with the kit to swim faster at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Commenting on the partnership, Tom Dean MBE, double Olympic gold medallist and Team England swimmer, said: “Speedo played such an important part in me winning my first gold medals in Tokyo last summer, so I’m really excited to see them partnering with Team England. We’re all really looking forward to a Games on home soil and hopefully seeing us get ready to race whilst wearing a specially-created Team England suit will give the fans something to cheer about.”
Duncan Scott MBE, Olympic gold medallist, who became the most decorated British athlete at a single Olympic Games, and Team Scotland swimmer, added: “As a member of the Team Speedo family already, it’s great to see them combining with Team Scotland for yet another Commonwealth Games.
“I’ve been swimming in Speedo for many years now and I know that when I stop onto the blocks, I’m in the best suit around. That gives you the confidence you need to go up against some of the best swimmers in the world and I have no doubt that the bespoke suits for Team Scotland will set-us up to swim with national pride as well as confidence.”
Matt Richards, Olympic gold medallist and Team Wales swimmer, said: “Tokyo was such an amazing experience taking part in my first Olympics, and winning my first medals, and Speedo was a huge part of that success. I am always incredibly proud to be representing Wales and, having swam for a while in Wolverhampton in my early years, it will be great to return the region to compete on such a big stage.”
Ally Whyke, Director of Aquatics for Scottish Swimming, said: “Speedo have a strong reputation for producing high quality equipment within swimming and I know that our athletes will be delighted, as are we, to have them on board as a Team Scotland technical equipment supporter for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.”
Grant Robins, Team England Swimming Team Leader for Birmingham 2022, added: “Working with Speedo on our Commonwealth Games journey makes so much sense. They are the ‘Performance Swimming Brand’ that champions love to be wearing. From my first encounter with Speedo their enthusiasm and desire to help and support has been overwhelmingly professional and enjoyable. It will be a great partnership.”
Fergus Feeney, CEO, Swim Wales, added: “I know I speak for all of our national squad athletes and national coaching team when I say how delighted we are to be partnering with Speedo for a second Commonwealth Games in a row. Birmingham 2022 is yet another great platform for us to showcase the elite of Welsh Aquatic sport, supported by the best technical performance kit in the world”
