Speedo, the world’s leading swimwear brand, has signed rising star in French swimming, Marie Wattel to its roster of swimming superstars ahead of the Games this summer.
Wattel, recently crowned European champion in the 100m butterfly, took her place on the international individual podium for the first time in her swimming career. Marie joins a number of high-profile, successful female Speedo swimmers also heading to Tokyo this summer, including; Pernille Blume (DEN), Sophie Pascoe (NZL) and newest member of Team Speedo; Abbey Weitzel (USA) to name a few.
Wattel competed in her first Games in Rio in 2016 and shortly after, made a career changing move to Loughborough University to continue her training and studying in the UK. The following year Wattel won silver in the 100 fly (55.97) and bronze in the 4×50 medley relay at the European Championships, marking her 1st major international medals.
In 2019 Wattel made the Worlds team for France. Individually, she set 2 national records in the 50 fly, finishing in 5th place at 25.50, only .03 away from medalling.
Celebrating her 24th Birthday today, the sprinter believes ‘Success is a journey, not a destination’ and continues to strive for success with her sights set firmly on Tokyo this summer.
