SunGod and McLaren Racing expand partnership for 2022

SunGod and McLaren Racing joined forces in 2021, as SunGod became Official Fan Eyewear licensee to the McLaren F1 Team.

Underpinned by community, defined by design, led by innovation; the two brands were brought together by a shared drive to see The Future in Focus. The partnership saw huge success last year and has been significantly enhanced and expanded for 2022.

On top of a refreshed SunGod x McLaren F1 Team collection, fans can expect to see all-new Limited Edition models co-designed by drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, race-day pairs to mark key Grand Prix, and a unique celebration of McLaren Extreme E, as well as SunGod branding on the drivers’ helmets as they do battle in each race. Each pair of sunglasses will combine SunGod’s industry-leading 8KO® lens technology and ultra-durable Adventureproof® frame, alongside a McLaren-branded lens engraving, Microfibre pouch made from 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles, and recycled and recyclable Display box.

McLaren Racing values new technology in motorsports to help create a sustainable future for the industry, and nowhere is that more evident than in the McLaren MX Extreme E Team. Extreme E – The Electric Odyssey is an off-road race series where equal-gender driver line-ups go head to head in electric race cars, in some of the world’s harshest and most climate-change impacted environments – from the deserts of South America to the glaciers of Greenland. Extreme E has been built out of a social purpose: to maximise awareness of the most pressing issues our planet faces.

To reduce the series’ carbon footprint, all freight and logistics takes place via sea – a 7,000 tonne ship is a ‘floating garage’ for the teams – and the series is informed by a Science Committee consisting of the world’s leading climate scientists. SunGod’s mission is to See Better; through their products, through their actions, and through doing business better. Doing business better means building a brand that’s sustainable to the core, so joining forces with McLaren’s Extreme E programme is the natural next step for the SunGod x McLaren partnership.

SunGod is a certified Carbon Neutral company, working with ClimatePartner to precisely measure and offset Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. So, when a customer buys a pair of SunGods, they can do so safe in the knowledge that their purchase has a neutral carbon footprint. SunGod also believes keeping your gear in play is better than throwing it away, so offers an unrivalled Lifetime Guarantee on every product. This means that if your SunGods break – or you break them – SunGod will repair them free of charge, no questions asked.

Lindsey Eckhouse, Director, Licensing, ecommerce and esports, McLaren Racing, said: “It’s fantastic to expand our partnership with SunGod. Following the popularity of our 2021
design collaborations inspired by Lando and Daniel, we’re excited to see our fanbase’s reaction to the new editions.

“We’re also thrilled that SunGod are joining our Extreme E journey. Racing in this series represents our mutual commitment to promoting sustainability by driving authentic change through what we do together.”

Ali Watkiss, co-Founder and CEO of SunGod, added: “We’re incredibly proud to be supporting McLaren Racing, both in Extreme E and F1, for the 2022 season. By taking our partnership to the next level, we’re doubling down on our commitment to our shared aims of performance, sustainability and community, as we work together to see The Future in Focus.”
