Vote for Shop Rugby in first-ever small business film awards

Sports retailer Shop Rugby is counting on the readers of Sports Insight to cast their vote and put Cardiff and the sports trade on the map in the first-ever online film awards for small businesses.

The rugby specialist has been shortlisted in the People’s Choice category in the YOSCAs (The Yell Online Small Company Advert awards), created to honour the best films made this year by independent companies, shops, bars and restaurants.

The video receiving the most Facebook ‘likes’ will be crowned a YOSCA winner and have a two-minute video filmed by the professional film crew at Yell.

Shop Rugby is one of 10 businesses shortlisted from across the UK that were hand-picked by Nick Dance, BAFTA nominated director of hit TV series Skins, whose previous work includes Shameless and Footballers Wives.

“This video is great and the guys had a blast making it,” Dance said of the Shop Rugby entry.

“The team at Shop Rugby would certainly give the cast of Invictus a run for their money.”

Matthew Bottomley from Yell, which runs the awards, adds: “Short films screened online to let customers see first-hand what businesses, their bosses and staff are really like, are predicted to take over from ordinary advertising.

“In the past only big companies could afford to make commercials about themselves and pay to show them on television.

“Now even the smallest shop or business can shoot its own film, put it online and get an audience of millions if it goes viral.”

On their nomination, John Williams of Shop Rugby, says: “We’re very pleased to be in the shortlist and hope the people of Cardiff vote for us so that we can go down in history for bringing the first ever YOSCA to Cardiff.”
