The Sport Industry Group is delighted to announce that entries are now open for the BT Sport Industry Awards 2014.
The last 12 months have seen the Lions roar with a first tour victory in 16 years, Andy Murray become Wimbledon’s first British men’s singles champion in 77 years, Chris Froome record a Tour de France success and the England cricket team secure a third consecutive Ashes Series win over Australia.
The winning didn’t stop on the field though, with the last year witness to incredible work from brands, agencies, teams, rights holders and community organisations, all successfully capitalising on and helping to drive sporting success across the country.
The UK sport industry continues to thrive, with a Sport England survey revealing that sport’s contribution to the English economy amounts to £20.3 billion per annum, creating more impact in the UK economy than insurance, accounting, telecoms and car sales.
“Some might have expected the British sport industry to take a step back after London 2012, but the last 12 months have shown the opposite is true,” Nick Keller, chairman of the Sport Industry Group, says.
“We have a host of major events set for these shores over the next five years and much of the work coming out of the British sport industry continues to set the standard globally – which is no surprise when you consider that this industry continues to attract some of the most creative minds in the world.”
Suzi Williams, BT’s group marketing and brand director, adds: “Last year BT was proud to be part of a British sporting community that came together to deliver the greatest show on earth and at the BT Sport Industry Awards in May we were delighted to help showcase and reward the very best of that work.
“With the launch of BT Sport, we are proud to be at the heart of sport again this year.
“We are excited to see what this hugely exciting industry has to offer from 2013, already an incredible year for British sport.”
The judging process for the BT Sport Industry Awards will once again involve the contribution of more than 50 industry professionals across more than 60 hours of judging, with the entire process overseen at all times by Deloitte, the independent scrutineers of the BT Sport Industry
Awards.
