The judging process for the Sport Industry Awards 2009 has begun

The judging process for the Sport Industry Awards 2009 has begun, involving over 50 key industry figures and more than 40 hours of intensive analysis of this year’s submissions.

The entirety of this process, one of the most transparent and stringent procedures of its kind, is overseen by Deloitte, the awards’ independent adjudicator, which takes full notes of all judges’ comments and thoughts, ensuring total transparency and enabling a level of feedback to entrants that is unsurpassed.

Judging for the Sport Industry Awards effectively takes place in two phases. Initially, during a three-week period, individual steering committees comprising selected industry experts come together for each of the 12 Sport Industry Award categories to run the rule over all the entries and finalise the shortlist in each category. With a substantial year-on-year increase in entries and judges testifying to a continual raising of the bar in terms of industry standards, finalising the shortlist represents a stellar achievement on the part of the nominees. The shortlist of nominees in each of the award categories will be revealed on February 2.

This shortlist then goes forward to the main award’s judging panel, featuring some of the leading figures in the industry. Heavyweights on the main judging panel include Trevor Beattie, co-founder of Beattie McGuinness Bungay; Paul Deighton, chief executive of London 2012; Roger Draper, chief executive of the LTA; and Sue Campbell CBE, chair of UK Sport. This panel, chaired by BBC presenter John Inverdale, will make the final decision on the winner in each category.

The winners will be unveiled at the star-studded Sport Industry Awards ceremony in central London on April 30, 2009. For more information contact the Sport Industry Group on 0207 240 7702.
