The Outdoor Industries Association held a free Get Ready for Brexit forum at the Royal Geographical Society, London after winning a successful bid for funding from the Government.
The OIA was the first industry body to be awarded funds from this special budget set to help prepare and inform individual sectors through their trade bodies and associations.
On October 22, all the speakers delivered outstanding and well-informed presentations that provided insights, suggestions and guidance for all possible Brexit scenarios.
SPEAKERS ON THE DAY
Mark Essex, Director of Policy, KPMG provided an overview of Brexit.
Arne Strate, Secretary-General, European Outdoor Group highlighted the importance of European industry unity despite the UK leaving the EU.
Dan Peck, Principal Consultant, Efficio discussed the impact on the supply chain and how best to avoid any pitfalls.
Kurt Jenson, Director, The Tourism Alliance established how the tourism business landscape might be affected.
James Allen, former Policy Adviser for a senior Cabinet Minister in the UK Government guided delegates through the potential political opportunities for the outdoor industries in a post-Brexit world.
Oscar White, ex-strategy advisor for Accenture Strategy and was part of a Brexit Leadership Team for a leading UK bank. Oscar facilitated and lead a thought-provoking workshop.
As a result of the government funding, the OIA has been able to develop a number of resources specific to this event. These include video recordings of all the presentations, a special webpage full of resources to guide you through the Brexit process and a LinkedIn discussion group to enable professionals from across the outdoor industries to share ideas, best practice and experiences (good and bad). Andrew Denton, CEO, Outdoor Industries Association, said: “Following the OIA Get Ready for Brexit event, as the UK did not leave the European Union on the 31st October and with a general election planned for the 12th December, there is the potential that the whole Brexit situation could make a complete U-turn. However, as the situation develops the OIA will keep the event webpage live and constantly updated with new resources until either Brexit is done and dusted or article 50 is revoked.”
