The Sporting Goods Industry Association (SGIA) represents manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors of sporting goods in the UK. Established over 100 years ago, the association brings together the power of the sports brands for the benefit of the industry as a whole and represents the UK market.
CEO Nick Palmer says: “One of our biggest assets is the SGIA team who together provide years of experience in the sporting goods sector. With a wealth of expertise and knowledge of the industry, they also provide specialist skills in marketing, communications, membership engagement, events and much more.
“The industry is diverse so our long- standing links with industry partners means that we can get the information and support members need when they need it. Our signposting service means we’ll do everything we can to assist and point members in the right direction. Members make us their first port of call with any issues regarding their sporting goods business and many are on first name terms with the team.”
In recent years the SGIA has developed its offer to members to meet their evolving needs. “Covid and Brexit have represented unique challenges,” says Nick. “Our members have been hit with unprecedented business conditions and as their trade association it was our job to steer them through. Our strong relationships with Government departments were never so valuable and enabled us to fast-track vital information to our members and to lobby on their behalf.”
As well as a wide range of free or discounted business benefits and services tailored to the sector, the SGIA provides events and networking, webinars and an exclusive Member Forum. The Forum provides a unique opportunity for members to share ideas with peers, connecting the sports industry and supporting innovation and best practice.
Nick says: “The team is led by our members. We’re stronger together and, as a non-profit organisation, we are able to champion the causes which matter most to members to help their sports business thrive.”
