Win the business World Cup

England have confirmed qualification for Brazil with victory over Poland at Wembley, but while Roy Hodgson’s side will be focused on the pitch, a world of business underpins the globe’s greatest sporting gathering.

Brazil has spent $3.5 billion refurbishing or building the 12 stadia that will host the tournament and more than $30 billion on infrastructure in total.

That will accommodate 3.3 million fans – some way short of the 3.5 million record of USA ’94 – but still oversubscribed, with more than six million ticket requests in the first round of sales alone.

97,000 of those came from England, a number that will soar now Roy’s boys are on the plane.

Sport’s relationship with business continues to bloom and the best of the best will be rewarded on May 8 at the BT Sport Industry Awards.

The first step towards winning the industry’s own World Cup is there for the taking – with entries open now at www.sportindustry.biz.

Meanwhile, special early-bird discounts are available on BT Sport Industry Awards table packages until October 31.
