The Ortles Couloir uses advanced technical materials to create an ultralight, high-end boot designed for mountaineering and ice climbing. The construction uses a carbon fibre frame with Kevlar inserts to optimise stiffness and flexibility with light weight. Taking inspiration from touring ski boots the design comprises an inner and outer boot, and the sole unit features a footbed using Salewa’s Responsive technology, where embedded minerals recycle the body’s infrared energy.
The ISPO jury commented, “At just over 700 grams, the Ortles Couloir is in the absolute lightweight class of crampon-compatible mountain boots. Goodbye cold feet: the toe box is additionally lined and mineral particles in the sole reflect body heat. To sum it up: an innovative ultralight, high-end mountain boot.”
The Ortles Couloir is made in Europe, and will be available for the FW21 season.
