ASICS UK & Ireland’s footwear manager Liz Austen explains: “Speed shoes are designed to be lighter weight than your average running shoe.
The shoes have a thinner midsole, which means that the runner’s centre of gravity is closer to the ground.
“With less material between you and the road, the runner has a heightened sense of positioning and reactions can be quicker – this is called improved responsiveness.
“Having a lighter shoe on your feet can also improve the transfer of energy from the runner’s body into forward movement, and you’ll feel lighter and faster.”
