Straight out of the box the Nebo slim + 1200 comes with a USB to micro-USB charging cable. The Nebo slim+1200 is a rechargeable slimline torch and power pack with a durable aluminium casing which fits pleasingly and comfortably in the palm of your hand.
The metal casing feels very rugged and solidly built, unlike some which feel if you squeezed it hard the whole thing would break up in your hand, the Nebo can take a knock and shrug it off as if it was nothing, even the lens over light itself seems well constructed and sturdy.
The clip on the back is metal as well, not plastic, which was a welcome surprise, and this readily clips on to a belt or a piece of clothing giving a hands-free option when using the torch as well as just easy carriage when on a belt. First things first, lets give it a charge, I plug the USB into a plug and the micro-USB into the torch and a red light appears which I take to mean it needs charging, so let’s leave it overnight and see how we get on in the morning.
The light is now green, so I am thinking it is now fully charged. The torch when switched on goes straight to the high-power setting and this is extremely bright, and I mean bright, please do not look straight into it as you are blind for a few seconds, I am just recovering because that is exactly what I did. Pressing the switch again brings the power levels down through a medium to a lower intensity of light, and then a red light. I must admit I have only used the higher-powered light mainly because I am lazy, and it is the first one that comes up.
As I said at the beginning it fits very easily into the palm of your hand. It can be carried comfortably in a pocket in your trousers, jacket or even in the top pocket of a shirt. The clip on the back can attach to a belt or most pieces of clothing. There are magnetic points on the base of the torch and the back at the top of the clip. These have come in handy a few times for me. I work in a retail establishment and closing in the winter months it is very dark, and I have used the Nebo slim+1200 most nights using either the clip from my belt or on my jacket to lock up at night, but I have also used the back magnet as I metal door frames which it easily attaches to.
I did also find it very useful the other night clearing out under my bed as the frame is metal and I used the magnets, it was easy to move and reposition as I was scrabbling around in the dust under my bed. I have not used the charger to fully recharge my phone, but it has been handy when at the end of the day I needed a bit of a boost because my bus pass is on my phone and if I stop for a couple of beers on the way home I can use my credit cards on my phone.
The Nebo torch comes to the fore walking home at night as there are some dark alleys on the way home and people like to walk their dogs near where I live, and as we know not everyone cleans up after themselves and that can save some unwanted cleaning at the end of the night. It has now been three weeks since I charged the Nebo slim+1200 and although I am not using it constantly it is still very bright and continues to do the jobs I need it to.
All in all, I think the Nebo slim+1200 is an excellent piece of kit with a wide range of possible uses including but not limited to many camping and outdoor pastimes, like night fishing, Anybody working early mornings or late nights, dog walking, all for a price of £39.99 I think this is a bit of a bargain.
