adidas to replace Nike as Manchester Utd kit supplier

The German brand will be the club’s global technical sponsor and official licensing partner in a deal said to be worth £70 million a year over 10 years from the 2015/16 season.

“We are excited to team up with Manchester United, one of the most successful and most loved football clubs globally,” Herbert Hainer, adidas Group CEO, says.

“Our new partnership with Manchester United clearly underlines our leadership in football and will help us to further strengthen our position in key markets around the world.

“At the same time, this collaboration marks a milestone for us when it comes to merchandising potential.

“We expect total sales to reach £1.5 billion during the duration of our partnership.”

Nike, which will have been United’s kit sponsor for the past 13 years at the end of next season, said it was ending its relationship with the club because the terms demanded did not “represent good value for shareholders”.

Nike is currently Manchester City’s kit sponsor.
