The mass participation water sports event programme is designed to encourage more people to support greater care of our seas, shores and wildlife.
Launched in 2010, the Ecover Blue Mile encourages people to connect with their local beach and waterway by swimming, surfing, kayaking or paddleboarding a sponsored mile in or next to the water.
It has grown from one flagship event to two (in Plymouth and Weymouth), this year adding a one-mile open water swim and an aquatriathlon to the Weymouth programme.
In addition, the Ecover Blue Mile engages hundreds of children in a nationwide schools and grass roots programme to link school sport with marine conservation.
All activity is designed to celebrate our seas and raise money to support the Marine Conservation Society, the programme’s official charity.
“Protection of our water environment is deeply rooted in our corporate culture and we fully emulate the programme’s passion and commitment to creating a better future for our seas and wildlife,” Martin Newton of Aqua Sphere says.
