FSPA welcomes new UK government

Dr Bruno Broughton (pictured), chairman of The Federation of Sports and Play Associations, has welcomed the new coalition government and wished it every success tackling the challenging issues facing the country.

He told Sports Insight: “Undoubtedly, there will be important changes and new policies affecting our industries.

“The FSPA looks forward to working closely alongside the new government on behalf of our membership, the huge resource that is the sports and play industries.

“As the UK’s national sports and play trade body, we are eager to learn more about the opportunities the new government will bring.

“However, we do recognise that there are challenging times ahead, particularly as neither party included play provision in its policies, which will clearly affect this important sector.

“The FSPA is committed to playing its full part in helping to shape future policies and providing every assistance to the new ministers and government departments.

“Our approach will be proactive, with the overriding aim of ensuring that the huge benefits that sport and play brings to health, social interaction and personal well-being are enjoyed by the entire nation.”

Jeremy Hunt remains in place at the Department for Culture Media and Sport, and has outlined his plans to push sports to benefit from increased national lottery funding.

The Conservative manifesto made a commitment to ensure the original allocation of 20 per cent of good cause money is restored, although the coalition policies on this and other key issues are not yet known.
