Give us your verdict on the new England strip

The new England shirt was unveiled on Saturday at Wembley – to mixed reactions from the press and public.

One online media outlet described it as ‘suspiciously like a school PE kit, albeit with a price tag to make the PTA revolt’, while Umbro, the kit’s manufacturer, said that fan response to the shirt has been ‘broadly positive’.

Umbro’s senior designer, David Blanch, said he was aiming for a classic look with the new plain white strip, which features a single button collar, a high definition embroidered three lion crest, inverted shoulder seam for reduced friction and a wicking back neck.

Designed in collaboration with Saville Row-trained tailor Charlie Allen, and involving England players throughout the design process, Umbro says the new kit honours the past, while looking forward to the future and combines traditional values of classic tailoring with modern fabric technology.

The shirt costs £49.99 – a 25 per cent price increase on the previous design.

Was sat in the pub last night watching the game, all the comments about the kit were negative, albeit from guys in 30s and 40s. Thought the white tracksuit tops looked like they were definitely designed with the Chavs in mind.
