New coaching initiative announced

Foreign exchange and payment specialist Travelex has announced details of a new sports coaching initiative – The Travelex Sport Exchange.

The scheme has been designed to provide an opportunity every month for any sportsman or woman in Britain of any age to be sent wherever in the world they need to be to get the best coaching experience for their chosen specialism.

Launched by John McEnroe, Jonny Wilkinson, Brett Lee and Adam Gilchrist, aspiring sports people need to visit www.travelex.co.uk/sport to upload their entries. Entries can be in video or text form and must describe why they are a specialist in their chosen sport they love. Video clips must be no longer that 60 seconds and written entries under 200 words. Any sport will be considered, from football and rugby to lacrosse and BMX. The Travelex Sport Exchange will then pay for a monthly winner to experience the best coaching for their sport.

Travelex wants the scheme to help aspiring athletes who are unable to afford expensive trips to specialised sports academies in different countries. This approach has been inspired by the trend of athletes looking to different nations and cultures to improve their performance.

“I think this new initiative from Travelex is great,” says Travelex Ambassador Jonny Wilkinson. “It is vitally important that up and coming athletes receive the best coaching on offer, regardless of geography.

“In a sport such as rugby, for example, the quality of the All Blacks team is phenomenal. I’m sure that there are some things that we could learn from their training techniques to benefit our up and coming rugby players.”

Says chairman and founder of Travelex, Lloyd Dorfman: “We looked at all of the sporting initiatives launched and supported by other major brands. There are a multitude of banks, financial services, sports and consumer brands all of whom, admirably, are helping people participate in sport.

“At Travelex we want to reward those who have shown a certain degree of aptitude and commitment in their sport and help them reach the levels needed to compete and win at the highest level.”
