New England home and away kits revealed

Both are made from Nike’s Dri-FIT technology and incorporate mesh panels and laser cut ventilation holes.

The home kit is all white. The shirt has a subtle pinstripe and features a satin tape on the shoulders, while the three lions crest has a metallic weave that creates a shimmering effect.

Of the new design, Martin Lotti, Nike football global creative director, says: “We wanted to pay homage to key moments in England’s proud footballing history.

“Two references stood out during the design process for the home kit – that stunning all-white kit England wore in Mexico in 1970 and the idea of the armour of English knights.

“You can see subtle references to the armour in the pinstripe, which carries a hint of shine, and in the white satin tape on the shoulders.”

The new away shirt features a red tonal pinstripe design and graphic interpretation of the St George’s Cross on the front that can only be seen from a distance. Away shorts are white and socks are red.

Shirts, slim-fit shorts and socks are made from an average of 18 recycled plastic bottles.

The socks have cushioned zones to provide comfort and protection at the big toe and ankle bone, while an arch support locks down the foot to help prevent slipping.

Material was eliminated to enhance touch and minimise bulk and flex grooves were added to the ankle and the top of the foot to prevent bunching.

Nike has also collaborated with renowned English typographer Neville Brody to create a new font for the names and numbers on the back of the shirts.

Both the home and away kits will be worn at this summer’s World Cup.

The new home kit will be worn in the friendly with Peru at Wembley on May 30.

However, the price of the men’s replica Match shirt, which has an RRP of £90, hasn’t gone down well with supporters (a non-replica Stadium shirt is available for £30 less), who have also been critical of Nike for releasing the latest England kit just a year after the current version was launched.
