Having started out as an event rider, Robert Lemieux competed at the World Championship and Olympic levels for Great Britain and, later, Canada. Unfortunately, a serious injury ended his professional riding career.

Inspired by his love for horses, Robert and his wife Lisa started selling supplements from a van under the Horse Health brand in 2003. Their business continued to grow until 2006 when the couple realised there was a desperate need for quality lambskin saddle pads. Committed to quality, innovation, and affordability, they set about making their own range, and Le Mieux was born.

The initial range of saddle pads put Le Mieux on the map, but this was only the first of several key milestones that have solidified the brand’s reputation. It wasn’t long before Robert and Lisa expanded the range to include most types of equestrian equipment, premium rider clothing and accessories, and gifts such as toy horses and accessories that led to partnerships with John Lewis and Selfridges.

The business moved to purpose-built premises in 2019, and its products are sold through more than 500 traditional and online retailers, Ayr Equestrian among them. Le Mieux is also available in 69 countries as well as via the brand’s own website.

Testament to Le Mieux’s appeal is the business’ growth by more than 30% every year since 2008 and its revenues topping the £22 million mark in 2021. From humble beginnings, Le Mieux has become the first choice of world-class riders, such as Rolex Grand-Slam winning showjumper Scott Brash and Olympic and World Champion Charlotte Dujardin.
