Online running shoes, running clothing and outdoor gear specialist retailer SportsShoes.com will host its first closed-road Podium series race in London on Thursday 3 September.

Organised in partnership with Friday Night Lights, the SportsShoes Podium ‘elite wave’ 5K race will be staged as part of the wider Run the Wharf event. This will be held at Canary Wharf.

In total, there are 300 places available in the SportsShoes Podium Run the Wharf elite wave. The qualifying times for the race are sub-18:30 for men and sub-20:00 for women. Consequently, prize money is awarded to the leading finishers.

SportsShoes Podium has been hosting record-breaking 5K events across the UK since 2023. These events have attracted thousands of UK and international athletes during that time.

These have included Olympians Emile Cairess, Beth Potter, Alex Yee and Narve Nordas. In addition, competitive runners from across the UK and overseas have also participated.

Run the Wharf’s 5K route goes from Cabot Square to Riverside. It continues down to Harbord Square Gardens and along the waterways of Canary Wharf.

The SportsShoes Podium elite wave will be the first race of the evening. Meanwhile, the event kicks off from 6pm at Canada Park Square, Canary Wharf.

SportsShoes Podium race coordinator, Mia France, said: “Our first closed-road Podium race in Canary Wharf gives runners the opportunity to race against people running at a similar 5K pace, which is great motivation for anyone chasing a PB.

“We know this closed route is perfect in allowing runners to race hard, all with the stunning Canary Wharf skyline in the background as the sun goes down.”

Run the Wharf is staged by Friday Night Lights. This is the events company behind a series of music-led 5K night runs in UK cities.

All runners are invited to a post-run social after the racing finishes. There will be street food vendors, pop-up bars and live music.

Entries for the elite wave at the event are open now and close at 11.59pm on Thursday 20 August. Runners can enter here.
