Welsh independent retailer Cardiff Sportsgear has been nominated for the Best Film prize at this year’s Yell Online Small Company Advert awards.
Created to honour the best films made this year by independent companies, the category winner will have an online commercial directed for them by Nick Dance, the BAFTA nominated director of hit TV series Skins, whose previous work includes Shameless, Footballers’ Wives and Bad Girls.
“Short films screened online to let customers see first-hand what businesses, their bosses and staff are really like are predicted to take over from ordinary advertising,” says Matthew Bottomley from Yell.
“In the past only big companies could afford to make commercials about themselves and pay to show them on television. Now even the smallest shop or business can shoot its own film, put it up online and might even get an audience of millions if it goes viral.”
Says Andrew Jordan of Cardiff Sportsgear: “I’m so excited I could shout it from the rooftops. I’ll have to get a YOSCA’s speech ready if I win.”
