Harlequins have joined forces with FabLittleBag to provide supporters with an easy and hygienic way to dispose of sanitary products at The Stoop and to help reduce pollution caused by flushing.
FabLittleBags are opaque, disposal bags for sanitary products (tampons and pads) sustainably sourced from plants and recycled materials, that seal closed, facilitating simple, hygienic, and discreet disposal of period products. Harlequins recently installed over 90 FabLittleBag dispensers in all female toilets at The Stoop.
This installation follows as part of a wider initiative from Harlequins to improve the matchday experience for all, which has already seen the provision of free sanitary products in the female toilets at The Stoop. In collaboration with FabLittleBag, Harlequins will be encouraging menstruating people to dispose of sanitary products, hygienically stored in disposable bags, in sanitary bins of the women’s toilets around the stadium, discouraging users to pollute by flushing products down toilets.
Shaunagh Brown, Harlequins Women and England prop has championed the collaboration, “It makes me proud to be a woman at Harlequins to know we are being counted. To know there are provisions in place to remind us as women, we are welcome. We are always welcome at Harlequins. This is another step towards a fairer society and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Founder of FabLittleBag, Martha Silcott, added, “I am so thrilled that Harlequins and The Stoop lead the way in 2022, showing how easy it is to do the right thing by breaking down the taboo around periods, helping to educate about the damage that flushing causes to our aquatic environment. The Stoop becomes the first stadium in the UK to make it easy for us to do good and feel good when managing periods. Small change; Big impact.”
Dispensers will be available to use at The Stoop ahead of the Gallagher Premiership Harlequins v Gloucester match on Friday 25 November 2022 and the Harlequins Women fixture against Saracens Women on Saturday 3 December.
