Waterlooville Leisure Centre
Horizon Leisure is investing £500,000 in a complete transformation of its gym at Waterlooville Leisure Centre.
Funded exclusively by the charitable leisure trust, this major upgrade includes brand new cardio equipment being installed on the mid floor. There will also be a full strength upgrade on the ground floor. Additionally, the free weights area will be refreshed with new racks and a new layout. There will also be a new 10-metre sprint track on the top floor along with self-powered cardio and functional equipment. Finally, there will be a dedicated glute training zone.
The new equipment from Horizon Leisure’s wellness partner, Pulse Fitness, includes modern Low-Impact Elevation Treadmills, Curved Slat Treadmills, Stepmills and Air Bikes. There will also be Pin-selected Strength Machines, Plate-loaded Weights Machines (such as Hack Squats and Hip Thrusts), Olympic Benches and Multiple Half Racks. The gym will also have a Functional Rig, Prowler Sleds and Plyo Boxes.
The refurbishment is scheduled to take place this summer, strategically timed for when many customers are away on holiday. This will help minimise disruption as much as possible. The project is estimated to take two weeks, with the new-look gym set to launch in August 2026. During the temporary closure, customers are welcome to use Horizon Leisure’s alternative site in Havant for a gym work out. However, the pool and group exercise programme at Waterlooville will remain open as normal.
Mike Lyons, CEO, Horizon Leisure says: “We are so excited about this investment in Waterlooville Leisure Centre. The upgrade is really comprehensive, and beyond the fantastic new equipment we will also be installing new atmospheric lighting, fresh décor and modern flooring. This will deliver a renewed feel and positive outlook that is both on trend and aligned with what our customers tell us they would like.
“As a charitable organisation, our aim is to support local residents to find opportunities for better wellbeing. To help achieve this we need inspiring and welcoming facilities. The latest investment at Waterlooville Leisure Centre means we have high quality equipment that’s easy to use. It also creates a safe space where our customers can enjoy spending time, now and into the future.”
Cameron James, Regional Sales Manager Southwest at Pulse Fitness, comments: “We are delighted to work with Horizon Leisure as its official Wellness Partner on the gym transformation at Waterlooville Leisure Centre. By combining a broad range of equipment from our Cardio, Strength and Functional Training lines, the refreshed facility has been expertly designed. This will support a variety of training goals while creating an engaging experience for members. This investment will help Horizon Leisure continue its important work in supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community.”
