A longstanding member of Intersport has been awarded an MBE.
John Moore (pictured centre) of SS Moore and The Athletic Store in Belfast, was awarded the prestigious honour in recognition of his service to business in Belfast.
Moore entered his family-owned sports business almost 40 years ago.
The company joined Intersport GB in 1977, and Moore was appointed as a main board director in the mid-1990s.
This year SS Moore celebrates its 60th anniversary, while The Athletic Store, as one of the oldest sports retailers in Ireland, marks 125 years in business.
Moore was a keen rugby player and has been involved with the Belfast Chamber of Trade and Commerce since 1980.
He was appointed chamber president for the period 2001-2002 and then re-elected for two years from 2008-2010.
Moore is also a service director of Belfast City Centre Management, a public/private partnership whose objectives are to make Belfast a cleaner, safer and more attractive and accessible city.
Says an Intersport spokesperson: “John and his business are longstanding and valued Members of the Intersport group, and everyone at Intersport would like to wish both John and Norma a fantastic day out at Buckingham Palace, along with continued success for the future.”
