Sam Burgess, one of Britain’s most highly-rated rugby league stars, has become a sporting ambassador for Vulkan sports supports and Sorbothane performance insoles. Both are top-selling consumer brands of UK medical and sports healthcare group, Mobilis Healthcare, which has signed a two-year sponsorship deal with the 19-year-old Bradford Bulls forward.
Under the agreement, Burgess’s image will be used extensively on point of sale and marketing material as part of a major rugby league promotion in early 2009. In a cross-code campaign, he is also likely to feature alongside Leicester Tigers and England rugby union star Lewis Moody, also a brand ambassador, and Clermont-Auvergne and France winger, Aurelian Rougerie, who has been signed by Mobilis’ French distributorship arm, Sacedi.
“Like Lewis, Sam is renowned as one of the hardest-hitting players in the game, with a get-stuck-in, no-nonsense approach that fits in well with the technical benefits of our protective gear,” says brands manager, Andrew Hawkyard. “We’re committed to keeping rising stars as injury-free as possible and, in this instance, providing products that will assist with rehabilitation. Active sports stars like Sam also provide invaluable feedback for our new product development, just as we’ve introduced larger support sizes for rugby players and developed the innovative Vulkan SI range for faster injury recovery.”
