While the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, the merger is expected to be completed by the end of June.
Tony Armand, president and CEO of Shock Doctor Sports, which includes brands Shock Doctor, Cutters and XO Sports, will become the CEO of the combined businesses, while Bob McDavid, president and CEO of McDavid Inc, will be chairman of the board.
Shock Doctor is owned by private equity investment firm Bregal Partners, while McDavid has been privately held since it began trading in 1980.
“Combining Shock Doctor Sports and McDavid will ensure athletes around the world are protected and benefiting from our performance products,” Armand says.
Bob McDavid revealed that McDavid has had many opportunities to partner, merge and sell, adding: “This strategic combination comes at the opportune time for our company and the athletes we serve.
“Merging our respective areas of expertise will help fuel our engagement with athletes, while enhancing our commitment to meaningful innovation and merchandising.”
